Remeron is an antidepressant drug that includes noradrenergic (organic chemical that acts in the brain and body as a neurotransmitter) and serotonergic (neurotransmitter) activities.
Even though the drug doesn’t belong to the serotonin or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, it can increase the level of serotonin and norepinephrine by a distinct mechanism of action. By enhancing the level of serotonin in the brain, the drug improves the patient’s mood, thus relieving them from depression
Remeron is mostly used for the treatment of diseases caused by depressive disorder or mood swings. In terms of effectiveness, this drug surpasses all the SSRI’s, bupropion (the drug for quitting smoking), serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI’s) and reboxetine (antidepressant for the treatment of unipolar depression).
Apart from depression, it can be also used for the treatment of panic attacks, migraine, sleeplessness and social anxiety disorder. You should inform the doctor if you suffered from suicidal tendencies before starting the treatment.
