Furosemide is a potent diuretic (saluretik). Diuretic effect of this drug is achieved due to inhibition of reverse absorption (re-absorption) in the kidney of sodium and chloride ions. Furosemide has a strong, rapidly-advancing and short-term effect, which depends on the dose. If the drug is taken orally, the effect develops within the first hour. The duration of action of this drug after a single oral dose is about four hours. These properties of Furosemide will be used in urgent situations for example, swelling of brain and lungs. Most pronounced diuretic effect of Furosemide was observed after one to two hours after taking the drug.
